Solution helps Nanning strengthen command and collaboration to save lives and protect property across more than 22,000 square kilometers in China

BEIJING, China - December 3, 2012 - Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open standards-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C), today announced that the Nanning municipal government in China has deployed the Polycom RealPresence Platform as its video collaboration solution for the new city emergency response system (CERS). This system improves the government's visual command capabilities and unifies its command and collaboration across departments to enhance public safety.

As Nanning modernizes its emergency management, the city's preparedness and responsiveness have been targeted as key to better protecting citizens and property. The city's emergency workers will use Polycom's video solutions to increase clarity and reduce errors in communication that can occur during crises, and accelerate potentially life-saving decision making. In China, providing citizens with more effective relief services has become a major emphasis at all levels of government.

The CERS deployment spans multiple city and regional departments, including the public security bureau, fire department, accident and emergency services, police force, flood prevention, and forest protection department. The Polycom-powered CERS enables emergency personnel to communicate in high-definition video over a vast area of urban and rural China that encompasses 22,080 square kilometers. In addition to supporting video conferencing, the Polycom solution enables workers to transmit live images in high definition from the field to help decision makers understand the severity of situations and ensure that resources are deployed in the most effective manner.

CERS includes a system that collects images of all streets, roads and traffic intersections in the region to help first responders understand traffic conditions and determine the most expedient routes to emergency locations.

The Nanning municipal government based its selection of the Polycom RealPresence Platform - the most comprehensive and interoperable software infrastructure for universal HD video collaboration - on a number of factors, including: security, scalability, reliability, support for open standards, and ease of use. The RealPresence Platform's unsurpassed support for interoperability transforms islands of users and fragmented communications systems into a seamless video enterprise, which makes enterprise-grade video easily and securely accessible to all authorized personnel whether they're mobile, remote, or on-site. The Nanning municipal government also has installed a variety of video collaboration endpoints, including Polycom HDX 7000 room systems, Polycom VVX 1500 business media phones and Polycom RMX 2000 collaboration servers.

Polycom HD video conferencing is accessible to CERS users at 40 emergency access points distributed across the local government headquarters office, county offices, and municipal emergency centers. According to the head of the Nanning CERS center, the most critical part of the new CERS system is that the Polycom solution delivers a powerful video collaboration platform for quantitative statistics and qualitative information. Members of the Nanning CERS team are able to see each other face-to-face on video as well as the image transmitted from the control center for real-time response. Visual command in the event of any emergency and being able to make assignments through video marks a breakthrough in its emergency management.

Steven Li, Polycom's general manager in the Greater China Region observed, "Market demand for videoconferencing systems is increasing, and we're seeing growing interest from government agencies as they modernize their IT infrastructures. Polycom is honored to play a role in helping governments use video collaboration to better serve and protect citizens and their property and achieve greater operational efficiency."
